Fall 2008 New Student Orientation

Kick off your Cornish College of the Arts experience at Cornish Connection 2008.

A variety of fun and informative events designed to help you meet students, faculty and staff, learn about campus services, community resources, and assist you in your transition to the Cornish Community and Seattle.

Monday, August 25th

Theater Students

9:00am - 12:00pm Freshman Auditions for TH 132 Musical Theater
All freshman Theater students interested in auditioning for placement in TH132 Introduction to Musical Theater should contact Theater Coordinator Jan Hubert at (206)726-5042 or jhubert@cornish.edu for audition information and to sign up for an appointment.

Dance Students

9:30am - 3:30pm Cornish Dance Theater Auditions
Transfer students with at least 15 transfer credits in the Humanities and Sciences are invited to audition for Cornish Dance Theater, the Department's performing ensemble.

Music Students

10:00am - 12:00pm Music Placement - Classical Vocal
If you are planning to major in Classical Voice within the Music Department, you must attend this audition; it will lead to your placement with the correct Vocal Instructor.

1:00pm - 3:00pm Music Placement - Theory, Musicianship & Piano
Required if you did not do placement testing at Registration in June or July. These tests will determine the correct level courses for your first semester.

If you are planning to major in one of these three areas within the Music Department, you must attend these auditions; they will lead to your placement with the correct Instructor and/or courses first semester. (Instrumental Jazz placement is on Thursday)

Tuesday, August 26th

Dance Students

9:00am - 5:00pm Dance - Performance Enhancement Screenings
All incoming Dance students are required to attend. A team of health care professionals will screen students for baseline strength and motion assessments that will be used to enhance their dance performance.

11:30am - 12:15pm Pre-registration Advising
All theater students who have not yet registered need to meet with the Theater Chair for advising.

1:00pm - 5:00pm Advising & Registration - By Appointment
If you did not register at the June or July New Student Registration event this is when you will meet with your advisor and select first semester classes. Advising times are by appointment; you can find yours on the bright colored sheet in this packet.

Parents and students are invited to attend a campus tour or attend mini-sessions on topics such as financial aid, safety, cooking healthy meals, thriving on a student budget, etc.

Go with your group to explore Seattle, discover a fun restaurant (hosted by your Orientation leader, paid for by Cornish) and locate other community and entertainment opportunities.

Learn from your Orientation leader how to make the most of your life at Cornish.

Head off-campus for lunch and find hot spots in Seattle.

1:00pm - 3:00pm Music Department - Jazz Instrumental Ensemble Placement
All Jazz Instrumentalists must attend these auditions; they will lead to your placement with the correct ensemble.
