On October 21, over 400 friends of Cornish took part in Cornish Celebrates an Evening of the Arts 2008. The annual fundraising event, which provides much needed scholarship support for Cornish students, has become a highly anticipated social spectacular, featuring the performances and installations of our students, faculty and alumni. This year’s event raised $442,710 for scholarships.
Highest honors were awarded to Music Department seniors Maxwell Adkisson (piano), Sean Glenn (cello), and Samantha Bosch (flute), upon winning the Washington State 2008 Music Teacher National Association Young Artist Chamber Music Competition held at Highline College in Des Moines, Washington November 9, 2008.
Educational Arts Resource Services, Inc., a company founded and run by Hal Ryder (Faculty, Theater Department), was invited to do a project in Peshawar, Pakistan this past summer, entitled Young Tribal Voices. Professor Ryder and Cornish alumna and Theater Department Faculty, Kerry Skalsky (Theater ’89), spent five weeks working with students from the University of Peshawar and Kohat to create and present radio plays dealing with social issues, intended for broadcast into the tribal areas in NW Pakistan.
Set at the end of America’s Industrial Revolution, at the beginning of the 20th century, Intimate Apparel is a tale of hope, sacrifice, and strength. The story revolves around Esther, a 35-year old unmarried black woman, who possesses a remarkable talent for designing and fashioning intimate apparel for women.
The Northern Pacific Chapter of the International Interior Design Association was pleased to hold the Seattle debut of the highly acclaimed IIDA Leaders Breakfast, Tuesday, October 7th at the Seattle Sheraton Hotel. This event honored one of our very own for his contributions to design and to our community, David Kutsunai, Associate IIDA, Principal and Director of Design in the Seattle office of IA Interior Architects.
